The Energetic Side of Cortisol

If you're doctor has mentioned adrenal fatigue, burnout, or that your cortisol is a little off, first let me begin with, SAME. Most of us are running with a nervous system that has been running an emergency protocol for so long it's forgotten what normal feels like.

Cortisol is supposed to spike when there's a threat and drop when the treat is gone. But most of us can't tell the difference between a genuine threat and an email in our inbox. Which is kinda part of the grand design of those in power as if the news wasn't enough to keep us stressed the eff out (hello Hanta virus outbreak!).

Our bodies aren't getting the "all clear" signal so we're just in a continual low boil state of stress. Your energetic body is holding onto that stress because you haven't been able to process it yet. Thankfully, you can do something about it. My first recommendation would be to put your phone down in another room and do something analog once in a while.

Burnout ≠ a willpower problem. It's rooted in your nervous system and has an energetic root. When you treat both, your entire system responds.

🗳️THIS IS POLITICAL (AND PERSONAL)

The Unpaid Work Nobody is Counting, Except Your Body

Did you know the latest reports say that unpaid care work (cooking, cleaning, being your family's unofficial chauffer, managing appointments, remembering everyone's everything) is worth somewhere between $10 and $15 trillion annually in just the United States?

Some states have launched their paid family and medical leave programs this year, but most of the US is far behind. While paid family and medical leave isn't a cure-all, it can certainly help pick up some of the slack our nervous systems are begging for.

🪤THE TRAP

Internalizing the exhaustion as personal failing or as something
that will never change.

💪THE MOVE

Name it out loud, at a minimum. If you have capacity, contact your reps to encourage them to introduce legislation that takes the pressure off women, caregivers, and marginalized populations.


🧘‍♀️ONE THING TO RELEASE THIS WEEK

Release the Belief That You Have to Earn Rest

Rest is not a reward. It's a literal biological need. So, in case you need to hear it again, get some rest! When you're well-rested, your brain makes better decisions, you can listen to that inner wisdom voice, and clarity becomes something you just have and don't have to continue chasing.
