INSIDE THIS WEEK'S EDITION:
❤️🔥WHAT YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO TELL YOU 🗳️THIS IS POLITICAL (AND PERSONAL) 🧘♀️ONE THING TO RELEASE THIS WEEK 🧹THE WOO HAS RECEIPTS 🌙COSMIC CORNER
Happy Tuesday, Reader!
Sleep. We know we need it, and we're probably not getting enough of it. And somehow, we're still surprised when things start falling apart. This week, I'm diving into why sleep isn't just "rest," but rather a state that your entire nervous system relies on. Let's get into it...

❤️🔥WHAT YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO TELL YOU
Your Brain Has a Cleaning Cycle - Are You Running It?
While you sleep, your brain literally flushes out waste through a system called the glymphatic network, but it can only do that when you're sleeping. Think of it like a dishwasher: it doesn't run while you're still loading it.
This week, pick one thing that's cutting into your sleep window, like the late night scroll, the 11pm email check (it'll still be there tomorrow!), or the show you're watching out of exhaustion rather than enjoyment, and protect that last hour of the night like the treasure it truly is.
Take care of yourself for the hour before you go to bed: put down the screens, pick up the cup of tea, and try something relaxing, like reading a paper book, writing in your journal, or doing some gentle stretches before bed.

🗳️THIS IS POLITICAL (AND PERSONAL)
The Sleep Gap is a Gender Gap
Research consistently shows that women get less quality sleep than men, and women actually biologically need more sleep! We carry a disproportionate share the mental load, night wakings (if we have babies), caregiving, and baseline anxiety that a broken system has handed us for generations.
In all likelihood, your sleep deprivation is not a habit problem, but rather a reflection of systemic issues we've dealt with for centuries.

|
🪤THE TRAP
Optimizing your sleep hygiene while ignoring the systemic conditions that make rest challenging in the first place.
|
|
💪THE MOVE
Advocate for the conditions that make sleep more possible: flexible schedules, shared caregiving, and permission to stop for the day.

🧘♀️ONE THING TO RELEASE THIS WEEK
The Idea that "Tired" is Your Personality
If "exhausted" has become how you introduce yourself, that's not a personality quirk, but rather a sign that things need to change. Chronic sleep deprivation rewires your stress response, tanks your emotional regulation, and makes burnout recovery nearly impossible. Remember, you don't have to earn rest.
BTW, do you need some ideas for rest and savoring the moment throughout the week? Check out this post I made on IG last week.
RUNNING ON EMPTY IS NOT A BADGE OF HONOR.

🪄THE WOO HAS RECEIPTS
Sleep is the Original Nervous System Reset
Before there were adaptogens, cold plunges, or cortisol mocktails, there was sleep. And it turns out, it does more for your nervous system than most of what we're selling ourselves. A 2019 UC Berkeley study found that even a single night of poor sleep significantly elevated emotional reactivity and anxiety the next day, essentially throwing the prefrontal cortex (your rational brain) offline while the amygdala (your threat detector) ran the show.
Consistently good sleep is one of the most evidence-backed ways to regulate your nervous system, improve emotional resilience, and reduce burnout symptoms...and it's free. Not everything that heals you has to be hard to find.
